Republic of Ireland striker Callum Robinson has thanked Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane for giving him his chance in a green shirt.

The Preston North End striker was familiar with Keane prior to his time with Ireland having worked with the Cork man when they were both at Aston Villa. Writing in his Lancashire Post column, Robinson explained that "people have asked me about Roy and what is like to work with." He described enjoying a positive relationship.

I’ve got to say that I got on really well with him, I think he liked my cheekiness around the place. Some people say that he is ‘Mr Angry’ but he is honestly not like that all the time. Don’t get me wrong, he will be angry at times when he needs to be. But the majority of the time he is fun to be around and enjoys the training camps as much as any of the players.

Robinson also said that both Keane and O'Neill were "very positive" with him on and off the field.

The FAI have moved quickly to move on from their reign with Mick McCarthy set to be appointed Ireland's new manager this weekend. McCarthy will return for a two-year deal with Terry Connor as his assistant manager and Robbie Keane on the coaching staff.
