Hamburg SV supporters had a shocker today after prematurely storming the pitch following their team's 0-1 win against SV Sandhausen on the final day of Bundesliga 2's regular season.
Their fans thought they had secured second place and automatic promotion, with Heidenheim down 2-1 to Jahn Regensburg, but, unbeknownst to them, there was plenty of time left in Regensburg.
In their defence, Heidenheim needed two goals to overtake Hamburg and Darmstadt to be crowned the champions of Bundesliga 2, and with time running out this outcome was looking rather unlikely.
However, there was hope, with 11 minutes of injury added in Regensburg, which Heidenheim took full advantage of with goals in the 93rd and 99th minutes to send Hamburg back to third and into a promotion play-off.
Hamburg have not been in the Bundesliga since 2017/18, and each season since they have either narrowly missed out on third place, or lost in the promotion play-off.
