The events in Buncrana in March almost transcended Ireland's famed sense of local community. Such was the unfathomable nature of the tragedy in which five family members - three of them children - lost their lives, it was one of the rare occasions where the entire nation mourned as one.
You may recall that from such heartbreaking circumstances emerged one sliver of hope, as such, in the form of a man named Davitt Walsh.
Walsh had swum to the family's car and, with the help of her father Seán, saved the life of Rioghnach-Ann McGrotty - then just four months old.
His heroic endeavours quite rightly swept the nation, and it subsequently emerged that Walsh was a former footballer for Donegal club Finn Harps.
Today, a month-and-a-half on from his courageous act in harrowing conditions, Walsh returned to the field for his current side Fanad United. Fanad were playing Derry City, for whom the uncle of Rioghnach-Ann, Josh Daniels, currently plays.
Both sides formed a guard of honour for Walsh in what was undoubtedly an emotional occasion for both he and Daniels along with the locality.
