Liverpool have continued their strong start to the Premier League season, recording a 2-0 victory over Burnley at Anfield this afternoon.
Goals from Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane were the difference between the sides, with the result never really looking in doubt after the Portuguese forward found the net in the first half.
There were a number of excellent performances in the Liverpool team, but few stood out more than Harvey Elliott.
The 18-year old was making the first Premier League start of his career, lining up in midfield alongside Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita. He certainly didn't look out of place.
Elliott produced a number of moments of sheer class over the course of the 90 minutes (including an assist for Mo Salah only for the goal to be chalked off for offside), showing why he has been such a hyped prospect in recent years.
Elliott came through the ranks at Fulham, becoming the youngest player in Premier League history after coming on as a substitute at the age of 16 years and 30 days back in the 2018/19 season.
He would join Liverpool in the summer of 2019 after winding down his contract, spending last season on loan at Blackburn Rovers where he would register seven goals and 11 assists, with that assist tally the third highest amongst all players in the division.
With the player not turning 19-years old until April of next year, it's not difficult to see why many Liverpool supporters are so excited by his performance today.
Harvey Elliott was born the same year as Mickey Joe Harte went to the Eurovision. That is all. #LIVBUR

For those of you who weren't on the Harvey Elliott train more than two years ago, a very warm welcome.

Harvey Elliott is 18, it's his first start at Anfield for Liverpool, he's been volleyed by the opposition at every opportunity, and he's still been excellent.
Some player we've got there y'know.— The Anfield Wrap (@TheAnfieldWrap) August 21, 2021

Harvey Elliott cleverly popping up in pockets of space and making it a danger zone for Burnley with crafty passing. Very impressive chemistry with Mo Salah already, and only Trent has more touches than the teenager thus far.

Speaking on BT Sport after the game, Peter Crouch said that his loan spell at Blackburn has helped Elliott make huge strides in his game and that he will play a big part in Liverpool's season.
I'm a big advocate of it (going out on loan). I went out on loan and it helped me so much when I was a young player.
He went out on loan, he's done the right thing, went and got games. What I saw today, he's an 18-year old kid and this was his (full) Premier League debut, he played as if he has played a hundred games.
He didn't look out of place at any point, he was comfortable in possession. He's gone to Blackburn and got a lot more confidence.
He's someone we heard about at 16 or 17, but it's easy to forget this was his (full) Premier League debut. For that to go under the radar, he looked like he was there for a number of years. I can't pay him a higher compliment.
He's going to be a big part of Liverpool's season...
He looks like a confident young man and he won't be pleased about getting dropped after that performance today. He's got every right to start the next game.
The 18-year old's flexibility will certainly be a big asset this season, with Elliott capable of playing on the wing or in a more central position.
His fellow BT pundit Joe Cole was equally impressed, saying Jurgen Klopp will have no issue trusting Elliott to play in the big fixtures over the course of the season.
He was very mature today. We've heard a lot about him and watched in the Championship where he had a fantastic season.
I think Jurgen Klopp will lean on him this year. He won't be a regular, but he will be drip fed into the team and play a part in big games.
It was a big show of faith from the gaffer to put him in today for the first game back at Anfield. He played with such maturity and covered the most ground on the pitch.
You're going to do that as an 18-year old on your debut, but it was more his quality on the ball that impressed me.
I expected that though.
Liverpool face Chelsea in the Premier League next weekend, so it will be interesting to see if Klopp sticks with Elliott against stronger opposition.
He certainly made his case for a place in the side with his performance this afternoon.
