It has emerged that Louis Van Gaal decided against using an agent in this contract discussions with Man United and instead told them to donate what would have been an agents fee to charity.

Van Gaal then decided to match that fee, meaning that Dutch charity Muscles for Muscles – a spinal muscular atrophy charity – were given around £1.2m.
