Just when you think things couldn't possibly get worse for Manchester United, they go and prove you wrong.
Their performance against Brighton this evening was arguably their worst of the season, and that's saying something. Their players looked completely disinterested throughout the 90 minutes of action and in truth the 4-0 scoreline probably slightly flattered the visitors.
FOUR FOR BRIGHTON!! 😱
A TOTAL capitulation from Manchester United... pic.twitter.com/IOfrBxbfHH— Sky Sports Premier League (@SkySportsPL) May 7, 2022
It was yet another disgraceful showing from this Manchester United side, who are now guaranteed to end the campaign their lowest point total of the Premier League era. They look like a group who are desperate for the season to come to a close, although they essentially have had that same demeanour since about October.
Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Graeme Souness and Dion Dublin said this game just summed up the attitude problems present in the current United squad.
"He's thinking when I was here last time I had Paul Scholes, Roy Keane, Rio Ferdinand... now I've got this lot" 😬

Dublin: It didn't look difficult, the way they passed around those red shirts today. Brighton looked comfortable in possession, there wasn't much pressure on them at all.
Man United didn't know whether to stick or twist, do we squeeze or not squeeze. Whatever they did today wasn't good enough in every single department. It wasn't good enough...
Souness: Man United came out as if they were out for a stroll, as if this game didn't matter.
This is what I think a lot of these Man United players don't accept: Man United never have an easy game. This wasn't a big game for Man United, but it's a really big game for Brighton.
You wear a target on your back when you play for a big football club. If you can't deal with it, then you shouldn't be at that football club. I would suggest that Manchester United have a majority of players that don't deal with it, that's why they've had such a miserable season and can play like that.
Dublin: One of the telltale signs for me was there was a clip after one of the goals where Cristiano Ronaldo was laughing. I was thinking was he laughing at the his players, is he thinking 'what's going on here'? That for me just summed up today.
Souness: I can tell you what he's thinking. He's thinking the last time he was here he had Paul Scholes, Roy Keane, Rio Ferdinand, and now he's got this lot...
Man United don't have any leaders, they've stopped listening, they've knocked it off. I'd imagine that they have some really bad apples in that group.
They're not interested in Manchester United going forward.
A damning assessment.
Meanwhile, Ralf Rangnick would go on to apologise to the fans for a 'terrible performance'.
🗣 "It was a terrible performance and a humiliating defeat."

Souness believes that Rangnick's appointment perfectly sums up the problems at Old Trafford.
Man United have had ten years since Fergie packed it in on ten years of ridiculously poor football decisions. I've never met Rangnick, maybe I never will or maybe I will get a chance to talk football with him.
What genius at Manchester United sat down and thought 'we're going to get rid of Ole and there's a guy who is an advisor at Dynamo Moscow, I've been told his the man'.
Look at his CV, there is nothing about his CV that would make you think he's the man for Man United. If you go back to the players they've signed, the players they've kept and renewed their contracts, to the latest guy that came in as coach, I just don't know where they're getting their football decisions from.
Erik ten Hag is sure to have been watching game, with that nature of performance hammering home the task he will have on his hands when he arrives at the club this summer.
He'll need every bit of luck he can get.
