"I had a chat with Stephen today, I wondered when we were starting," joked Brian Kerr on TV3's Champions League coverage on Tuesday night.
Tommy Martin had just mentioned to Kerr that Eamon Dunphy had opined during the week that Kerr and Stephen Kenny should take up the reins of Irish football.
The possibility that he might return to have some role within Irish football was a prospect about which Kerr was coy last night.
The 64-year-old said that enjoyed some good times working for the FAI. Though, he's had no contact with the Association since his contract as manager of the senior football team was terminated 12 years ago.
Asked if he would like to get involved in Irish football once again, Kerr said it was an awkward subject to discuss. Though, reading between the lines - as Graeme Souness did - it does appear Kerr would be open to the possibility.
That’s a very awkward one because it hasn’t appeared like anything like that was going to happen. I’ve had no inkling towards that happening over the last dozen years so I’ve gone away worked abroad, I’m working here, I'm doing media stuff.
I’m staying in touch with the game but I’ve had no approach from any side of the FAI that has any indicated they’ve any interest in using me.
No contact from the FAI in 12 yrs.
