Real Madrid have secured their spot in the Champions League final in the most dramatic of circumstances after a last gasp Joselu brace led them to a 2-1 victory over Bayern Munich.

The German club looked to be on course to claim an iconic European victory, with Thomas Tuchel's side leading heading into the final moments of normal time thanks to a fantastic strike from Alphonso Davies.

However, as we have become accustomed to seeing from Real Madrid in this competition, a famous comeback was soon on the cards.

It came from the most unlikely of sources too, with 34-year old loanee Joselu scoring a quick fire double to send his team to the final.

While Manuel Neuer had an incredible game up to that point, that mistake would prove to be a costly one.

Bayern Munich would push for an equaliser over the remainder of the game, but despite the referee playing 15 minutes of injury time, they could not find it.

In the end, Real Madrid would secure a spot in the decider for the second time in the last three seasons.

Brian Kerr cracks Joselu quip after Real Madrid UCL comeback

While Real Madrid comebacks in the Champions League are certainly no surprise, not many would have predicted the source of tonight's drama.

Quite a few football fans will remember Joselu from his time in the Premier League, with the striker having underwhelming spells with both Stoke City and Newcastle United. He would score a combined 11 league goals across three seasons at the two clubs.

Since then, he has had decent spells at the likes of Alaves and Espanyol, before signing for Real Madrid on loan as a stopgap option for this season. That now looks like a bit of genius from the Spanish giants, with the 34-year old securing their spot in the Champions League final.

Speaking on Virgin Media after the game, Brian Kerr cracked a hilarious quip about how he was viewed by Newcastle fans to sum up just how far Joselu has come over the last few seasons.

Joselu, 34-years of age, I don't think he's ever had a night (like this).

I remember him playing at Newcastle, the supporters used to almost laugh at him he looked so unconfident!

He got six goals across two seasons, he was big signing for Newcastle at the time. He got four goals at Stoke.

The last few season he has been trying to keep Alaves up in the league, I think he got 11 and 14 (goals), at Espanyol he was very good last year.

What a signing he has been...

The practicality of the manager (was on show by signing Joselu), saying we need an option and an old fashioned centre forward.

He started at Real Madrid, I think he might have got a medal without playing back in 2012. He has had an interesting career.

Then he just comes on in the Champions League semi-final at 34 and scores two massive goals tonight.

Real Madrid will now face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final, hoping to win a record extending 15th European Cup.

Even if Joselu never kicks a ball for the club again, he has already established himself as a cult hero at the Santiago Bernabeu after his exploits tonight.
