Cork City have won the double, adding the FAI Cup to their league title to affirm their status as the best side in the country. They did so flawlessly on penalties: Kieran Sadlier burying Cork's final penalty to confirm a 5-3 victory. They came from behind to earn a ticket for the lottery, with substitute Achille (Campion) bringing Dundalk to heel.
Dundalk had gone ahead in extra-time through Danish defender, Niclas Vemmelund. In celebration of that goal, the Aviva was enveloped with smoke as the Dundalk fans lit flares in celebration. Flares had been lit throughout the game by supporters of both sides, and Brian Kerr loved it.
Kerr was on commentary alongside George Hamilton on RTE, and he gave his view that he essentially believes that No Pyro, No Party.
It's nice though George, isn't it? I always think it adds a bit of a big-time touch to a match, when there's a smell of the flares. There's far too much health and safety at matches I go to, where fellas are getting searched and so on. It looks like a haze in front of us, but you know there's a match on.
Hamilton followed it up with a typically slick mention of Guy Fawkes Night. Kerr's words, and the use of pyro throughout, comes despite messages from the captains of both clubs to avoid the use of flares during the game.
