Friday's announcement that Arsene Wenger will step down as manager of Arsenal after 22 years at the helm sent into a blaze a fire which has been long burning.
Long has there been speculation regarding when Wenger will exit the Emirates and who will replace the Frenchman.
Luis Enrique, Carlo Ancelotti and Joachim Loew have all been linked - as has Brendan Rodgers.
On Saturday, Celtic failed to seal their seventh consecutive Scottish league title, losing 2-1 to Hibs at Easter Road. It could now be next weekend, when they face Rangers, that their status as champions is rubber stamped.
Following yesterday's game, Rodgers addressed the speculation regarding him being linked to the Arsenal job.
"I’ve always said that I’m living my dream here," Rodgers told the Sunday Mail.
"There will be somewhere I can go and maybe earn two or three times more money – but it’s not about that."
Last summer, Rodgers signed a new deal at Parkhead which replaced his original rolling contract. He is tied to Celtic until 2021. Despite this, Celtic majority shareholder Dermot Desmond has said the club would not stand in Rodgers's way if he wanted to move.
Rodgers did not completely dismiss the idea of becoming Arsenal manager when asked how he would deal with an offer being made but it does appear his love of Celtic will keep him in Scotland for at least the next three years.
I would speak to the board but it will take something extraordinary to take me from here.
After this season I have three more years and will be so happy if I can see those out.
I am privileged to be here as the manager. I want to help the club grow and develop.
