A plane carrying top-tier Brazilian football team Chapecoense has crashed on its approach to the city of Medellin in Colombia.
It's being reported that there were 81 people on board the flight, including nine crew members, and that six people have survived the crash.
The Chapeco club were due to play the first leg of the final of South America's second most important continental competition - the Copa Sudamericana - against Medellin team Atletico Nacional. That game has now been suspended.
The charter plane took off from Santa Cruz, Bolivia and crashed on its way to Medellin’s international airport, Colombian authorities said.
Buzzfeed News report that the plane crashed in a mountainous area, which airport officials said was difficult to reach and could only be accessed by land due to weather conditions.
It was not immediately clear what caused the crash but the plane reported electrical failures before it crashed, according to airport officials.
Chapecoense were promoted to Brazil's first division in 2014, and reached the Copa Sudmericana final last week after a victory against Argentina's San Lorenzo.
The South American soccer federation has cancelled all activities until further notice.
