Brazilian football is at its lowest ebb this morning after Dunga’s national side were eliminated from the Copa America in the group stages for the first time in 30 years in the early hours of this morning.
A draw against Peru would have been enough for the competition’s second favourites to advance to the quarter finals but they were undone in highly controversial circumstances at Foxborough Stadium in Massachussetts.

Brazil were in complete control throughout but had failed to break the deadlock by the time Peru substitute Raul Ruidiaz appeared to turn in a cross with his forearm in the 75th minute, sparking huge protestations from Dunga and his team.
Brazil failed to find the net against either Peru or Ecuador in the group stages, registering only one win the tournament – a 7-1 obliteration of Haiti.
Dunga was clearly not happy with the outcome and expressed that to the media after the match.
It was such a clear handball but we have no influence over the referee. Everyone saw what happened. We cannot change what everyone saw.
Dunga, who is now in his second stint in charge of the Brazilian national team, will surely have to field questions as to his future but he expects to be in charge of the Brazilian Olympic Team in Rio de Janeiro in August.
When you work for the Brazil national team you have to know the criticism will mount when you don’t get results, but internally we know what we are doing.
That 1-0 win for Peru has left them top of Group B and they will face Colombia in the quarter finals.
Brazil, meanwhile, will be left reeling after a another hugely embarrassing exit from an international tournament.
