Bray Wanderers have released a statement following the posting of idiotic slurs online by their General Manager. Murt O'Connor holds the position, and posted the following on his personal Facebook page:
Bray Wanderers responded to the slurs by releasing the following statement on Facebook:
The background to that comment [about the Orlando shooting] was that he was engaged in what he considers banter, which he does a lot of, with a resident of Florida in Tampa.
I would question the attitude of the other person but he shouldn’t have got engaged and he shouldn’t have passed what he considered a humorous joke.
It was inappropriate and he’s apologised and he won’t be the first one that thought humour was smart and wrong and made a mistake and had to back down. That’s the background to the comment about Florida.
He probably threw it out himself, trying to be a comedian, which he’s not.
It wasn’t funny, it wasn’t humorous.
People pass these comments at interviews and press conferences when they’re not using their heads and they are thinking about something else – he’s made a mistake and he’s said he’s sorry.
He does not condone the shooting and he does not condone the background to the shooting.
