If Jon Daly wasn't already the most popular man in Inchicore, he may well be now after a rousing speech to St. Pats fans, following their FAI Cup final win over Bohemians yesterday.

In a Dublin nightclub, Daly addressed a rowdy crowd over a microphone, and referenced the words of Bohs manager Declan Devine after his side's 4-0 win over Cork City in their final league game of the season.

"I'm delighted for yous. I'm delighted for the players. I'm delighted for everyone connected with the club", Daly said to huge cheers.

I'm not going to stand in front of yis and make empty promises like we seen last week at Cork v Bohs.

Because we have the fuckin' trophy, hah.

So Shels are celebrating, just like us, hah.

“Shelbourne can celebrate all they want, but we’re bringing that fucking cup back next week!”, Devine had said to a raucous Dalymount crowd on November 3.

For context, a win over St. Pats in the FAI Cup final would not only have given Bohs a trophy, but it would also have guaranteed them a spot in Europe next season, at the expense of Shels.

Shelbourne also had a dig themselves when they referred to the quote from Devine on their Instagram page.

While Devine may regret his overly bullish tone, he was took the loss well and was magnanimous in defeat at the Aviva Stadium.

“European football was the ultimate goal, silverware was always something we wanted to aspire to, but it’s just sheer disappointment and hurt. It’s going to hit hard, it doesn’t go away, it will never go away, bring Bohs to a Cup final in my first year, my family and everybody here, it means so much to so many people. I’ll dust myself down over the coming days but the pain will probably never go away.

“It’s definitely a wasted opportunity. Defensively, we didn’t do our job well. It’s an amazing club, but we were in touching distance of silverware and it’s very raw, it’s very difficult; ultimately we should look back on it with a lot of regret in terms of the goals that were absolutely preventable.”
