Bohemians have parted ways with manager Declan Devine after a poor start to the season. Bohs have won just one of their first four games in the League of Ireland Premier Division and a defeat to Dublin rivals Shelbourne on Friday night was the final straw.
Devine leaves the club after 18 months at the helm. Since Devine joined in October of 2022, Bohs narrowly missed out on Europa Conference League qualification after they lost 3-2 on aggregate to Greek side PAOK. They also reached an FAI Cup final last season where they lost 3-1 to St Patrick's Athletic.
Declan Devine was despondent after Bohs defeat to Shelbourne on Friday night as it looked like the pressure was mounting on him. He said "the buck stops with him" and took full responsibility for Bohs' struggles.
In a statement released on the Bohemians' website, they confirmed that Devine's assistance Gary Cronin also departs the club and Director of Football Pat Fenlon will take interim charge of the team with Derek Pender moving up from first team coach to assistant.
Bohemian FC has today parted company with men’s first team manager Declan Devine.
The Board of Bohemian FC wish to put on record our thanks to Declan for the commitment, determination and enthusiasm he brought to the club since being appointed to the role in October 2022.
He oversaw the club’s transition back to full-time football and his efforts saw Bohs reach the FAI Cup final and narrowly miss out on qualification for Europe through the league last season.
The club has also parted ways with assistant manager Gary Cronin, and the board also wish to thank him for his efforts since his appointment in November 2022.
Director of Football Pat Fenlon will take charge of the team on an interim basis, assisted by first-team coach Derek Pender.
Bohemians next match is at home this coming Friday against Derry City. Kick off at Dalymount Park is at 7:45pm.
