Looking at the current pool of players, there is no doubt that Sammie Szmodics has been the biggest success story among Irish footballers this season.
Previously a solid operator at Championship and League One level, the Blackburn Rovers man has taken his game to a whole new level this season. He has notched 31 goals and four assists in the current campaign, leading the scoring charts in the Championship.
Szmodics would also make his international debut last month, and while Ireland would not win either game, he impressed with his performances on both occasions.
Unfortunately for the 28-year old, his form for Blackburn has not translated to a huge amount of success on the pitch. They currently sit in 19th place in the league and will need a draw in their final game of the season in order to be certain of their place in the division for 2024/25 (although it would take an unlikely set of results for them to go down).
Szmodics is likely to move on this summer, with a number of Premier League clubs said to be interested in his services. However, he will not be available on the cheap.

Blackburn Rovers slap huge price tag on Ireland star
The Sun are reporting that Blackburn Rovers have slapped an asking price of £20million on Sammie Szmodics this summer.
The forward has drawn interest from Premier League sides Brentford and Luton Town, with a number of other clubs likely to be keeping an eye on his situation over the coming months.
That asking price is a very steep one considering Szmodics' age and overall CV. While he has been in sensational form this season, this is by far the most prolific campaign of his career. Forking out a fee of that size would no doubt be a risk, especially for clubs in the top flight.
Still, considering the way the player has developed over the last couple of years, it would not be a surprise to see him move for significant fee this summer.
It is unlikely to be as high as £20million, but the Ireland star will not be short on suitors over the coming months.
