The Premier League teams' struggles in the Champions League have been well documented in recent times however that might be about to change if the potential of a number of young players is fully realised.
No fewer than four Premier League stars feature in the top 10 of Soccerex '20 Under 21' list' an annual look at the top talents in the modern game under the age of 21.
Manchester United star Anthony Martial topped the 2016 '20 under 21' list and the French dominate the latest report, with five representatives to feature on the prestigious table.
Here is how the list is compiled and measured:
The Soccerex 20 Under-21 Report utilises the Football Value Index compiled by Prime Time Sport and takes into account the player’s age, position, current club, contract length, market value perception, international caps, minutes played, goals, injuries and technical quality from a variety of sources to arrive at a final valuation.
#1 - Dele Alli
The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has been identified as the most valuable player under 21 on the planet and this is hardly a surprise given his performances in the Premier League last season, chipping in with a cool 18 league goals and 11 assists.
#4 - Leroy Sane
The Manchester City winger was second on the list in 2016 but drops two places this year. The German struggled to make an impact under Pep Guardiola initially but in 2017 he was a guaranteed starter, bagging himself five goals and seven assists in 26 league games.
#6 - Gabriel Jesus
Jesus arrived at Manchester City in 2017 after helping his former club Palmerias win their first league title in 22 years. Although he broke his foot, the Brazilian forward managed to score seven goals and provide four assists in only 10 league appearances.
#7 - Marcus Rashford
Although he found his second season more difficult under Jose Mourinho, he still featured prominently throughout the season with with 32 Premier League appearances, 16 as a sub and 16 from the start. The English striker only scored five goals and provided three assists putting him seventh on the table.
#18 - Andreas Christensen
Although the Dane plied his trade in the Bundesliga for the previous two seasons, playing 62 games for Borussia Monchengladbach, he is technically still a Chelsea player because that is what the Blues do, they send the majority of their players out on loan. Christensen played one game for Chelsea in the 2014/15.
The future is looking bright for the 'best league in the world'.
