Ireland have escaped the Ernst-Happel-Stadion with three huge points. A dull and dreary game was brought to life with a bang in the second half when James McClean put Ireland ahead. From there on in it was a typical Irish away performance. Martin O'Neill's side sat back and waited for the pressure.
It came, and Austria missed an absolute sitter with the last kick of the game had hearts in mouths. But the 1-0 scoreline was enough and Ireland sit top of Group D.
