The Daily Mail are continuing their series of forming the best XI's from England's biggest clubs, and Liverpool are the next to come under the spotlight.
The first place we looked was at right-back, where we arrogantly assumed we would see an acknowledgement of the performances of a certain Steve Finnan, however, instead we found a slap in the face in the form of German full-back Markus Babbel. Granted, Babbel was an excellent right-back, and even made it into Steven Gerrard's all time team-mate XI, but we won't rest until Finnan makes the breakthrough from "underrated" to "rated". And maybe even "overrated" if we have our way.
Elsewhere the exclusion of Fernando Torres is noticeable, as the Mail instead opted for Luis Suarez and Robbie Fowler, which in fairness is understandable. Presumably Liverpool fans will be happy to see Torres excluded after he jumped ship and joined Chelsea, but there is no doubting his impact and level of performances when he was wearing the red jersey.
There's a spot for Steve McManaman at the tip of a midfield diamond, which looks absolutely lethal. Here is the team in full:
Hyypia and Carragher were nailed on selections, as well as Alonso and Gerrard in midfield.
Is there anyone else who missed out that you feel was hard done by in missing out on a place in the best Liverpool team of the Premier League era? Let us know.
