Bernard Brogan fired a first-half goal and kicked a free kick in time added on to ensure his St Oliver Plunkett's Eoghan Ruadh side didn't leave Parnell Park a beaten side after their Dublin Senior Championship opener with St. Jude's last night.
The game itself was far from a classic, with both sides perhaps blowing away early season cobwebs in the cagey opening exchanges.
The Ashtown club took a 6th-minute lead through a Brogan placed ball, the first of five he would kick on the night. Soon after came a second before Adam Keating pushed their lead to three in the 11th minute.
Last year's beaten finalists finally got themselves on the scoreboard halfway through the first period when Ronan Walsh splits the uprights.
Each side traded goals within seconds of each other when, first, Ronan Joyce got on the end of a well-worked team move before finishing well past Padraig Brennan.
That drew the sides level for the first time, but Plunkett's were back in the ascendency by the break thanks to that man Brogan, who capitalised on a fumble in the Jude's full-back line before a quick-fire strike found the roof of Paul Copeland's goal.
Plunkett's led by two at half-time but an opportunistic Joyce strike edged Jude's in front in the 44th minute, the forward smashing past Brennan on the half-volley after Paul Cunningham found himself a long way from his cornerback spot to feed the assist.
The game swung into action finally in the last ten minutes with Niall Walsh and Sean Bugler pulling Plunkett's back ahead before Diarmuid McLoughlin and Niall Coakley responded for Jude's.
That set the scene for Brogan to land his fifth free of the evening as the game slipped into injury time.
