Earlier in the summer, Dimitar Berbatov was linked with a return to the Premier League with newly promoted Bournemouth.
That signing never materialised for the Bulgarian and Eddie Howe's team.
Seeing Berbatov in English football this season is still a possibility though.
According to the Daily Express, the 34-year-old is 'on the brink' of a move to Aston Villa after being recommended to Tim Sherwood by former player and fellow countryman of Berbatov Stiliyan Petrov.
The Express say that personal terms are currently being discussed between the two parties. Berbatov is a free agent after being released by Monaco at the end of last season.
He could be linking up with another player whose best days are most likely behind him.
Emmanuel Adebayor is close to securing a season-long loan to Villa Park from Spurs.
