As Manchester United continue their search for a new midfielder, it is likely that their attentions will soon turn to recruiting a striker.
They have been linked with quite a few centre forward in recent months. It was said that Harry Kane was their primary target, although it seems the club have little interest in entering into prolonged negotiations with Daniel Levy. The likes of Rasmus Hojlund and Victor Osimhen have also been linked with a move to Old Trafford.
All of those moves would make quite the dent in their transfer budget, with Erik ten Hag reportedly told that he will have £100million to spend. Any further funds will have to be raised via sales, with the Dutchman open to offers for as many as 13 of his players this summer.
If he can boost his transfer kitty, it seems the club have one potential target in mind.
Manchester United said to be pursuing €80million striker
Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha are reporting that Benfica President Rui Costa has said that Manchester United are willing to pay the €80million asking price for striker Goncalo Ramos.
It is said that Benfica have already rejected a bid worth up to €60million for the player from an unnamed club, with PSG also thought to be interested in the player.
Goncalo Ramos became a familiar name to many football fans during the World Cup in Qatar, scoring a hat-trick in Portugal's 6-1 win over Switzerland in the last 16. The 22-year old scored 27 goals and registered 12 assists at club level in all competitions last season.
This would be the second consecutive summer that Benfica sold a forward player for big money, having dealt Darwin Nunez to Liverpool in 2022 for a fee of up to €85million.
He fits the profile of player Manchester United should be targeting. Far too often in recent seasons they have paid over the odds for older players, with Ramos the type of young up and coming name the club should look to recruit. In saying that, the €80million asking price makes any potential move a hugely significant one.
Ramos will no doubt be in the mix when the club step up their chase for a new striker.
