Beats by Dr Dre, the headphone manufacturers, have released their extremely clever and quite lengthy World Cup ad, 'The Game Before The Game.' It features luminaries such as Luis Suarez, Robin Van Persie and Cesc Fabregas pacing around, brows furrowed in deep concentration with headphones cupped around their ears.
However all these noted figures are overshadowed by one item of memorabilia wish made an improbable appearance here.
The Meath jersey from their glorious 1987-1990 period appears (it couldn't have been the 1991 model because sponsorship was allowed on jerseys from that year on and O'Reilly Transport was plastered across Meath's jerseys). The jersey appears at 01.28.
Now some cynics may point out that we are jumping the gun here and that this is simply a jersey from that part of that world that just happens to resemble the Meath jersey from 87-90. However, it is our contention that Beats by Dr Dre, being the shrewd marketing force that they are, have very wisely decided to latch onto the popularity of the team of Mick Lyons, Brian Stafford, Martin O'Connell and co.
