Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski has slated the club's hierarchy after he felt they offered 'no protection' to him earlier in the year.
The Polish striker endured a frustrating run of form earlier this year as he struggled with injuries and a dry spell. Bayern were knocked out of the Champions League at the semi-final stage and speaking to Bild, Lewandowski claimed the club failed to defend him against widespread criticism.
In April, May everyone criticised me. And I felt no protection from the club, felt alone. I scored no goals in two or three important games and suddenly everyone was saying: open fire against Lewandowski!
I did not see anyone who supported me at the time. Neither of the club bosses defended me. I did not feel well in Munich in those moments. In this time it did not fit anymore.
There were reports that the 30-year-old was set for a transfer this summer after his agent, Pini Zahavi, declared his client unhappy in Germany. However, Lewandowski claimed the fans persuaded him to stay.
