Having just won the Champions League for the first time in over a decade it seems that Bayern Munich's position at the apex of European football is secure. They were named for the first time today as the most valuable brand in football in the annual BrandFinance Football 50 list. The so-called brand value is, like many of these lists and classifications, based on a whole series of hypotheticals, but it is essentially the estimated cost that a third party would have to pay to license the use of a brand. Bayern's brand has risen 9% in the past year and looks set to continue with its upward trajectory, while Manchester United's has dropped by 2% in the past twelve months. The Premier League on the other hand, is still the dominant financial force in football and its clubs feature most prominently in the list.
