Manchester United have agreed a deal with Chicago Fire which will see Bastian Schweinsteiger leave for the MLS once his medical is completed and visa secured.
While the German midfielder had held out hopes of convincing Jose Mourinho he still had a role to play in the United team, it seems Chicago Fire's persistence has paid off. The MLS club had held discussions last with Schweinsteiger last year before pushing to finalise the move asap.
Having previously opted to stay at United beyond the January transfer window, the World Cup winner finally agreed to leave. In a club statement, Schweinsteiger said:
Throughout my career, I’ve always sought opportunities where I hoped to make a positive impact and to help make something great.
My move to Chicago Fire is no different. Through my conversations with Nelson and Pauno [General Manager and Head Coach], I'm convinced by the club’s vision and philosophy and I want to help them with this project.
This morning, the United great tweeted a goodbye to the United fans and team. There won't be a dry eye on the internet.
Thanks to all fans, the whole staff and my teammates of @ManUtd! I will never forget my time with the club, but now it’s time for a change! pic.twitter.com/zYn2o5Cjsk

SKY SOURCES claim Basti will be earning around £70k a week in a one year deal and could join the club as early as Wednesday. The Fire have had a disappointing couple of seasons in the MLS so they're obviously hoping Schweinsteiger can make a big difference.
