Bastian Scheinsteiger could miss Euro 2016 after suffering a partial ligament tear while on international duty with Germany.
On Tuesday, the German FA announced that the midfielder would undergo an MRI on his knee after pulling up during training on Tuesday.
That scan revealed a partial tear of his medial ligament which will put him out of action for the remainder of Man Utd's season and means he could also miss the European Championships.
The 31-year-old had just recently returned from two months out with an injury to the same knee.
Schweinsteiger's form since joining Man Utd has been poor. He has started just 13 games for Louis van Gaal's side this season.
