Manchester United are closing in on the £30m signing of Ivorian central defender Eric Bailly according to reports in Spain.
We've profiled the 22-year-old Villareal prodigy in greater detail here, but if you're unfamiliar with Bailly you might have missed the following error he committed 14 months ago when confronted by the oncoming Fernando Torres - a man once synonymous with torching United's defenders (and one in particular).
The goal crucially moved Atlético six points clear of fourth place Sevilla, a year before they reached their second Champions League final in three seasons.
Perhaps more pertinently, however... Remind you of anyone?
This means Eric Bailly will become one of the best centre backs in the Premier League and a United legend, right?
Well, he needs to sign first, but Marca in Spain are reporting that Bailly will sign on the dotted line pending a medical. Also in Spain, El Carrusel Deportivo de la Cadena Se - part of the Cadena Ser network - confirming that United have offered almost €30 million for the talented young defender.
Villarreal signed Baily from Espanyol in January 2015 for a fee of €5.5 million, with the young African viewed as a replacement for then-Arsenal-bound Gabriel.
Bailly has made 15 appearances for the Ivory Coast since his international debut last year.
