It's every football fans dream turned into a nightmare. Imagine being in your own team's stadium free to walk around with no one to tell you what to do.
That's essentially what happened to one Barnsley fan, but was trapped in Oakwell stadium after falling asleep. The fan had gone to the toilet at half-time, and fallen asleep only to wake up seven hours after the game ended.
As he left the toilet and walked into the dark and empty stadium, alarms went off informing emergency services. They arrived to find the fan on top of a portkabin inside the stadium calling for help.
Firefighters were able to rescue the fan:
We got the call through to attend Oakwell and usually its just a false alarm.
But we turned up and saw this young lad on top of the portakabin trying to get our attention. We had to get the ladder to get him down. He had no shoes on and had lost his mobile phone and his hat.
He was more bothered about his hat though, he seemed a smartly dressed lad.
I know Barnsley lost again but it can’t be that bad, he must have had a big session for him to fall asleep for that period of time.
The fan informed emergency services that he had a "few beers" before using the toilet at half-time. The next thing he could remember was waking up seven hours later.
