Less than a fortnight ago, Ross Barkley took to Instagram to sympathise with Séamus Coleman after his Everton teammate suffered a horrific double leg-break from a reckless challenge by Neil Taylor.
Two days ago, he nearly put his foot through Dejan Lovren's shin.
It was Barkley's second vicious 'tackle' in as many Merseyside derbies, having been fortunate to escape a red card for similar on Jordan Henderson at Goodison Park in December. All players are 'that type of player', but Barkley, in particular, has a penchant for the abhorrent.
He received just a yellow card for his stupid collision with Lovren on Saturday, and Liverpool's central defender has now revealed that Barkley didn't so much as apologise for his dangerous lunge.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Lovren said:
If I showed you my leg then there would be headlines tomorrow.
It was a tough challenge but we've seen it many times before. I don't want to talk about that because if I do it will be in all the newspapers.
What can I say? The only thing I don't like is that if you make a hard challenge like that then come and say sorry or something like that, not talk with the referee and say it wasn't a foul.
Everyone saw it. It's over and we won the game.
Due to his yellow card, Barkley can't receive any further punishment on a retrospective basis. He did, however, once more draw the ire of football Twitter for his irresponsible conduct, in a time where dangerous on-field play is very much the topic of conversation.
