Barcelona's Transfer Ban Is Hitting Them Hard Judging By Their Saviour Tonight

If the decision to allow Pedro to join Chelsea wasn't taken out of Barcelona's hands, it's fair to say the Spanish international would still be at Camp Nou regardless of the money that was being offered.

Barca were a little careless last year by allowing a clause in Pedro's contract to kick in which ensured his release clause dropped substantially. That allowed Chelsea to swoop this summer and all of a sudden, the Catalan's are looking rather light in numbers up front.

They may have spent the best part of €40 million on Arda Turan but their ban means he can't be registered until January and all of a sudden, if Suarez, Neymar and Messi aren't firing, Luis Enrique is being forced to turn to the likes of Munir or Sandro Castillo.

That was the case against Malaga tonight but thankfully for Barcelona, a rather unlikely source popped up to give them a 1-0 win. Thomas Vermaelen, in only his third league appearance since signing from Arsenal last summer, popped up in his 73rd minute to fire home and give Barca fans some hope that he may not be such a dud signing after all.
