Catalans have long been campaigning for independence from Spain and following the election of a new parliament in the region the prospect of them becoming an independent state have increased.
The incoming government has promised to fight for independence, calling their election;
The beginning of a process of the creation of an independent Catalan state in the form of a republic
The powers that be in Madrid have already spoken out against the idea with Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy promising to do everything in his power to prevent the split.
As long as I am president of a nation of free and equal citizens, justice will prevail over unreason.
With the two states set to go head to head it leaves Barca in a tricky position.
If Catalonia were to break away from Spain it would leave a sour taste in the mouth of most Spaniards, putting Barcelona FC in between a rock and a hard place.
If the split does eventually happen, Messi and co may find themselves kicked out of La Liga, however if such a thing were to go ahead it seems they'd be more than welcome in Ligue 1.
French Prime Minister and Barca fan, Manuel Valls has come out saying that he'll happily accept the Catalan club should they find themselves kicked out of La Liga, alluding to Monaco's inclusion in the league.
Monaco play in Ligue 1, so why not Barcelona? I'm a huge football fan, a Barca fan. They're in my blood. France knows it and they ask me about it on the streets.
Would Barcelona in Ligue 1 make it stronger than La Liga? It would certainly increase the profile of the league and kickstart a new rivalry with money rich PSG, and with so many players "dreaming" of playing for the Catalan giants you would have to imagine a new level of talent would be attracted to the French league.
