The Biggest Game Between Reserve Teams In World Football Took Place Yesterday

On Sunday evening the reserves teams of Barcelona and Real Madrid  met in the "Mini El Clasico". Barca B v Real Madrid Castilla took place in the appropriately named Mini Nou Camp which sits adjacent to its giant big brother in FC Barcelona's sporting campus (along with basketball and ice skating arenas among others). The stadium has also played host to Andorra internationals, including the game against the Republic of Ireland in 2001

It is only the 17th game between the reserve sides of the 2 rivals. The last time they played in Barcelona in 1998, future stars like Xavi and Puyol were playing. Sunday's game saw Real Madrid take the lead before half time through Morato. In the second half Madrid were reduced to 10 men before the latest Argentine wonder kid to come through the La Masia system, Araujo, quickly levelled.  As can be seen here his goal to put Barca 2-1 up clearly put the capacity home crowd into raptures.  It is a typical Barca move.  This could easily be Xavi to Iniesta to Messi

Barca B's top scorer Deulofeu added a third from the penalty spot to send the crowd home happy.  Will Deulofeu or Araejo be the next players to make the step up to the big leagues like all the rest before them?  We'll soon find out
