Over the past few weeks it appeared as though Antoine Griezmann's summer transfer to Manchester United was more of an inevitability rather than a possibility.
It was all so perfect with the number seven shirt sitting idle for him, and his constantly cryptic younger brother flirting with the the fans, but it seems now that for this summer transfer window at least, Griezmann is going nowhere.
In an interview with Spanish media outlet RTVE [via AS], Griezmann confirmed that he is staying with Atletico Madrid as he is enjoying himself so much he has no reason to leave.
I'm very happy here and of course the nice weather really helps a lot! My teammates are among the best there is and then I have a top class coach, so I am very happy here and I have no reason to leave.
Griezmann continued to claim that Diego Simeone is very happy to continue as manager, something that seemingly had an impact on his decision to stay.
While it will obviously be a disappointment for Man Utd fans who were really warming to the idea of such a talented player arriving and pulling on the coveted number seven shirt, the club will still certainly spend big in the summer transfer window.
If Griezmann is off the market, it remains to be seen if another attacker will be pursued, or even if there is a deal in place for a transfer next year, but now Zlatan Ibrahimovic's contract talks will be more of immediate importance to the club.
