According to Sky Sports this afternoon, Brendan Rodgers is currently locked in advanced talks to take over as Celtic manager. (Such is Rodgers' undimmed positivity and staunch belief in progress, one assumes that talks involving Rodgers could only be 'advanced'). Rodgers is believed to the club's first choice to take over at the club.

This comes as a blow to Neil Lennon, who has been masking a punditry tour as lobbying for his job back, and Roy Keane, who has consistently expressed a desire to get back in club management when his time ends with Ireland.
The capture of Rodgers would be a coup for Celtic in the sense that he has held an equally high-profile job in the past, and is a change in direction for a club who appointed Ronny Deila off the back of six years with Stromsgodset in Norway.
It would be an intriguing move for Rodgers, however. Such is the cut and thrust of modern management, Rodgers needs to get back in a job soon before being perceived as an irrelevance - ask Alan Curbishley - and the Celtic job would naturally appeal on a number of levels: the wide support base; the monster ground; the history and tradition; the likelihood of winning trophies.
Should he fail to win trophies consistently at Celtic, however, a league perceived as being extremely straightforward despite the return of Rangers, his failure to win anything of note with Liverpool will be exacerbated further.
There is also nothing in Rodgers' CV that indicates he is the ideal candidate to lead Celtic further in Europe: he won just one European tie away from Anfield in his time with Liverpool.
It'll be fascinating to watch.
