Two weeks from now, on 6 December at 16.00 GMT, people all over the world will gather around TVs, radios and computer screens, as footballing legends draw out a process that could easily be done in under 10 minutes.
But FIFA would do very well to forget all of the nonsense preamble and follow in the footsteps of Ryan Bailey, who staged a mock World Cup draw for Bleacher Report, using his nine-month-old daughter Jessica - someone who, according to Bailey, has "the same amount of integrity, intelligence and highly regarded international reputation as a FIFA delegate".
Here's Jessica drawing Pot 3 in just 45 seconds...a record for a World Cup draw. Note also her eagerness to get on with it and move on to Pot 4.

Here's how the final groups shaped up.

Jessica clearly followed FIFA's directives by pairing Lionel Messi's Argentina against Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal in Group F.
