Tifo Battle: Atletico Fans Respond To Real Madrid's Bernabeu Slagging

As Atletico Madrid made the short trip over to the Benabeu stadium for the first leg of their Champions League semi-final clash with Real Madrid, a number of fans were very upset by the tifo, or giant banner presented by the fans, that was on display for the pre-match ceremony.

Madrid fans chose to mock Atleti's final defeats at their hands in recent years; The 2014 final in Milan, and last year's final in Lisbon.

The banner had a big Champions League trophy with 'Milan' and 'Lisboa' around it, and 'How does it feel?' as the message.

So, naturally, the Atletico fans have responded.

They unfurled two tifos aimed at Real Madrid, the first a direct response to the question posed to them at the Bernabeu:

What do we feel? Pride.

And the second:

We are not like you.

Which was perfectly pronounced (as always) and explained by George Hamilton on the RTE commentary.

Clearly the tifo at the Bernabeu touched a nerve, although that's a decent response, even if it's likely to be scoffed at across town.

Whether the message from Real also proved to encourage the Atleti players remains to be seen, although judging by their blistering start tonight, it may just have.
