It was a crazy opening week to the Champions League, and Atletico Madrid's clash with Porto was somewhat lost amid the chaos enjoyed by the English teams.
A loss away to Dinamo Zagreb ultimately cost Thomas Tuchel his job as Chelsea boss, while Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool fell to a shocking 4-1 defeat in Napoli to start their campaign off.
There were also landmark games (and heavy defeats) for Celtic and Rangers, alongside the poignant story of Shakhtar Donetsk's win away to RB Leipzig, so it's understandable if not many eyes were focused on Madrid on Wednesday night.
What they missed, however, were ten minutes of utter chaos at the game's conclusion, as Atletico took a dramatic win over Porto in stoppage time.
Atletico snatch dramatic win over Porto
Atletico Madrid and Porto were drawn in the same group for the second year in a row for 2022-23, and clashed on matchday one in the Metropolitano in Spain's capital.
It was a tense affair for the most part, brought to life when Porto's Mehdi Taremi was farcically sent off for a second yellow card for diving.
The red card for diving was only the beginning of the chaos. In the first minute of stoppage time, Atletico substitute Mario Hermoso took a shot from the edge of the box which took a wicked deflection and completely wrongfooted Porto 'keeper Diogo Costa, sending the Metropolitano wild.
The joy of Atletico's fans was only to last a matter of minutes, as Hermoso himself gave away a ridiculous penalty at the other end in the 95th minute. Attempting to block a cross, he inexplicably stuck out his hand and flicked the ball away, giving away a stonewall penalty which Mateus Uribe just about squeezed past Jan Oblak.
Somehow, the drama wasn't over. A full six minutes after Porto's 95th minute equaliser, the man of the hour was Antoine Griezmann, who had come off the bench on the hour mark (again...) for Atletico.
Atletico's corner was nodded on and, evading a high boot, Griezmann popped up at the back post in the 101st minute to head home the winner for Atletico and sent the stadium (and manager Diego Simeone) wild.
It was an absolutely nuts Champions League night, made all the more bizarre by Griezmann's contribution.
Griezmann is currently on loan at Atletico from Barcelona. FourFourTwo report that Atletico will be obliged to pay Barcelona €40 million for Griezmann if the Frenchman plays more than 45 minutes in half of the games for which he is available. He has come on with under half an hour to play in every game so far this season.
Griezmann's involvement was a quaint side story on a manic Champions League night in Madrid, one Porto will have left crestfallen, as Atletico took a scarcely believable win.
