Perennial Arsenal transfer target Jackson Martinez joined Atletico Madrid from Porto last summer in a deal worth €35 million. Martinez has failed to settle at the Calderon and has scored just twice in eleven appearances.
It has been confirmed that Martinez is now on his way out of the club for more than Atleti paid for him. The Columbian striker has made a €42 million move to Guangzhou Evergrande of China. The Chinese transfer market does not close until February 26th, hence the completion of the deal at this late stage.
Martinez follows former Chelsea midfielder Ramires to China, who joined Jiangsu Suning last week in a deal worth a reported £25 million.
Guangzhou are currently managed by Luis Felipe Scolari, whose 2002 World Cup triumph has been tarnished by the crass ineptitude of Brazil's 7-1 capitulation to Germany in 2014.
