Sky Sports News are reporting that Athletic Bilbao have rejected a bid of £28.85 million from Manchester United for Ander Herrera.
It was initially believed that Herrera had a buyout clause in his contract of £28 million which was set to rise to £32 million on July 1. I guess the lads at United must have gotten it wrong again.
The 24 year old starlet was pivotal for the Spanish side last season, scoring five goals and making five assists to help Athletic secure fourth place in La Liga.
An Athletic statement read,
Athletic want to announce that they have this week rejected an offer from Manchester United, of around 36m euros (£28.85million), for the transfer of the economic and federative rights of the player Ander Herrera.
Manchester United were heavily linked with the Spaniard last summer but missed out on his signature before the deadline passed.
It now appears that newly appointed manager Louis van Gaal has set his sights on acquiring Herrera to bolster their midfield following a lacklustre Premier League run last season that saw the Red Devils miss out on Europe.
