We were aware that the bang on the head Cristoph Kramer received during the World Cup final left him in a bad way.
We didn't know just how bad.
Philipp Lahm, Thomas Muller and Manuel Neuer have emerged with some jaw-dropping quotes illuminating just how disorientated Christoph Kramer was during the game.
They were appearing on ZDF Sportstudio, a sports comedy panel show.
Apparently, Kramer wanted to go in goal, wished to assume captaincy responsibilities and decided that Thomas Muller was in fact called 'Gerd' and was playing four decades ago.
Nueur's account:
He was fine until I saw him acting strange. Then he came to me and said ‘Manu, let me play as the goalkeeper'
Lahm recounted how he wanted the captain's armband
I wasn’t worried at first, he played normally. But things started when he came to me and said he wanted to take the captain band from my arm.
I thought ‘what’s going on here'. When he wanted to trade shirts with the ref I thought ‘it’s enough now'
Then, Muller recounted the barely believable tale of how Kramer confused him with Germany's most revered centre forward from the 1970s, Gerd Muller.
He called me “Gerd” and congratulated me on the ’74 final.
Then, when the crowd was really loud he told me: ‘Great atmosphere here in the Ruhr stadium!’
It was important that he was subbed off because nobody knows what else he would’ve done – maybe take off the ref’s panties!?
Their anecdotes have been reported as fact but we're suspicious that Muller in particular may have been extracting the urine. Indeed, German contributors to Reddit have confirmed that the video was intended to be a joke.
For the benefit of any German speakers, here is the video.
