Of the many bumbling human beings emblematic of Aston Villa's decline, Joleon Lescott has been among the more prominent. Following a 6-0 capitulation to Liverpool, Lescott was forced to apologise for tweeting a picture of his expensive car, rather than, say, a Nissan Micra.
The former Everton and Manchester City defender then drew the further ire of his poor supporters when he was quoted last week in the aftermath of relegation as saying it was a "weight off our shoulders". The few Villa fans that turned up for the Southampton game this afternoon made sure that Lescott would be haunted by his words:
Oh dear. Fans singing "it's just a weight off your shoulders" at Joleon Lescott after his poorly chosen words following Villa relegation ...

Lescott then proceeded to stink out all of Villa Park with his performance, showing him to be about as physically sharp as his wit in losing a five yard head start on Shane Long while turning for Villa's second goal. And in further proof that all events in life are part of a long and elaborate joke on Villa fans, Lescott ended the game as Villa's captain.
Old @JoleonLescott is getting absolutely torn to pieces by Shane Long today. It's fantastic. #avfc

"Joleon Lescott, you're a wanker" is getting an early airing at Villa Park. #avfc

Theory: Lescott put the weight from his shoulders into his boots.
