Later today, the Munster Council are expected to confirm that the Munster final replay between Cork and Kerry will take place on Saturday July 18th at 7 p.m.
A balmy Saturday evening in Killarney, watching the two Munster giants go head to head once more doesn't sound too bad at all, except for the fact that, if you're not in attendance, you may not get a chance to see the game.
Round 3B of the All Ireland football qualifiers are scheduled for the same evening and that will cause scheduling problems between Sky and RTÉ. At this point of the Championship, Sky have the rights to the Saturday evening qualifier slot, and the respective broadcasts of the two rights-holders cannot overlap.
That means that, should things go ahead as planned, Sky would have first option on the Saturday at 7 p.m. slot and the as yet unscheduled qualifier would have to be shown.
While that would be a rather bizarre state of affairs, it appears a solution may be found with a spokesperson for Sky telling the Irish Times that, if/when a request from RTÉ is made, they would more than likely accept a change in schedule.
However, that would mean that the qualifier would have be rescheduled, most likely for 3 p.m. earlier that day. While that may seem like the most desirable situation, it would almost certainly provide some scheduling difficulties. As such, this impending situation may not be easily wrapped up just yet.
