To the list of Leo Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Didier Drogba, Xabi Alonso, Gerard Pique and many, many more can now be added Kylian Mbappe.
Just like people joke about Robbie Keane having innumerable boyhood clubs, there is a running joke regarding Arsene Wenger's claims that he nearly signed players.
Speaking to beIN Sports this week, the Arsenal manager said he nearly convinced Monaco's teenage sensation Mbappe to move to the Emirates last year.
The player would tell you that I was at his home last year to try to get him here because he was at the end of [his] contract, but Monaco managed to keep him and the decision was very, very tight.
But I could understand it as well because he was educated there and at the end decided to stay there.
Mbappe is likely to be the subject of much attention this summer, Arsenal being one of those clubs interested. Given the competition, Wenger is not confident about securing the French forward's signature.
I don't know, that is down to him.
But today he will decide where he goes, because he can say Real Madrid maybe, Barcelona maybe, Arsenal, Manchester -- he can go where he wants.
