Coming into Saturday's FA Cup final, Arsenal had been written off by many despite showing signs of improvement over the final weeks of the Premier League season.
When the teamsheets emerged, Arsenal were written off even further. With a make-shift back three/five including Per Mertesacker who had played very little football in for the seemingly irreplaceable Laurent Koscielny, it looked like it was going to be a tough task. But Arsenal were outstanding. Mertesacker was a mountain, Welbeck looked a bit like Theirry Henry at times, Bellerin was relentless, and Olly Giroud came up big with an impact off the bench.
It was Arsene Wenger's 7th FA Cup win, a record, and after all the bullshit he has been through and the abuse he has taken from his own fans over the past few months, it was his turn to celebrate.
When the BBC interviewer tried to push him for an answer on his future at the club, Wenger did exactly what he should have done, and simply pissed off, and asked to be allowed enjoy the night.
Arsene Wenger is the only manager to win seven FA Cups.
This is what it means to him... pic.twitter.com/k35pm7Pb83— Match of the Day (@BBCMOTD) May 27, 2017
The perfect response.
There are many Arsenal fans who should be embarrased by the things that have been said about Wenger recently, and there will be some extremely smug (justifiably so) fans who defended him from what he was subjected to, but that matters little tonight as it's party time after a very poor league season.
Wenger's future is still up in the air, but there's a time and a place for that, it's not on the pitch seconds after he's won a record 7th FA Cup.
