We showed you the make-shift team from the last time that Manchester United travelled to Wolfsburg ahead of that crazy match which took place on Tuesday night, but Wednesday actually offers us a chance to do the same for Arsenal as they face Olympiacos, 4 years after a forgettable visit to Greece.
While the Manchester United team that we looked back and laughed at featured the likes of Michael Carrick in centre-back and Park Ji-Sung at right back, Arsenal's team features more players in their usual positions, but some of the names are likely to bring back repressed memories for Arsenal fans, and for that we can only apologise.
Arsenal, having already won the group back in 2011, took on Olympiacos with the following starting XI:
Andre Santos, what a player he was. Actually to be fair, at the time this team was picked he was in a decent patch of form and didn't look like one of the worst players to have played for the club. The same can not be said of Marouane Chamakh.
Frimpong.
Also keep in mind that The Ox was 18 at the time.
Djourou and Squillaci in the same back four is largely the reason the score ended up 3-1 in favour of the hosts, that an Fabianski being forced to leave the pitch due to injury, replaced by Vito Mannone. You can check out the highlights of that match below, if you so wish:
Olympiacos - Arsenal 3:1 Highlights by FootballKing1892
Funnily enough, Arsenal played Olympiacos again in the 12/13 season and the starting XI consisted of:
Szczesny, Vermaelen, Jenkinson, Meade, Squillaci, Ramsey, Coquelin, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Rosicky, Gervinho, Chamakh.
So there's history here. Sadly it seems as though nothing as mental is planned this time around, despite Arsenal's current injury problems.
