It's fantastic to see Katie McCabe finally get the praise that she has long deserved in recent times. Her form at both club and international over the last few years has been top class.
Her exploits with Ireland have been well documented, acting as the catalyst the to team's first World Cup qualification. She will captain the side in Australia later this year.
At Arsenal, she has become one of the leading figures at the club, being named as their Player of the Year for the 2021/22 campaign. She has started every WSL game this season, scoring once and assisting twice as her side sit three point off the top of the league with a game in hand.
However, it seems as though her future could yet lie away from North London.
Arsenal reject 'substantial' bid for Katie McCabe
Sky Sports are reporting that Arsenal have rejected a 'substantial' bid for Katie McCabe from reigning WSL champions Chelsea.
The Irishwoman has 18 months left on her current contract, meaning that the club may consider cashing in if the right offer came along. However, they are said to be 'reluctant' to sell her ahead of Tuesday's deadline.
Chelsea have won the WSL in each of the last three seasons and have been the dominant force in English football over the last number of years.
They are also willing to splash the cash when it comes to new signings, breaking the world transfer record to sign Pernille Harder for £250,000 back in 2020, although this record has since been broken by Keira Walsh's move to Barcelona last year. Their £200,000 deal to sign Lauren James from Manchester United was also the second highest transfer fee of all-time when it went through in the summer of 2021.
This would suggest that Chelsea have the resources to tempt Arsenal into selling Katie McCabe, although it remains to be seen if they would sanction such a move mid-season.
The club's supporters have certainly not take the news of her potential departure well.
