According to reports this morning, Arsenal have won the battle to sign Juventus's Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal. The Chilean newspaper 'La Stampa' are adamant that Vidal has signed a deal to move to Arsenal for £21 million.
The word is that the official announcement of the deal will be suppressed until after the Copa America. The Independent in the UK stressed the role of countryman Alexis Sanchez in convincing Vidal to throw his lot in with Wenger and Arsenal.
Yesterday, reports emerged that Manchester United have already won the race to sign Morgan Schneiderlin with Arsenal apparently determining him to expensive.
Vidal has had a rough summer after crashing his Ferrari while driving under the influence. He gave a tearful press conference in which he apologised and admitted he behaved recklessly. Many Chilean pundits and opinion-makers said he should be omitted from the Chilean Copa America squad as a result.
