Soon after Brighton secured a British record fee by selling Moises Caicedo to Chelsea, there were already rumblings that they were preparing for the departure of Evan Ferguson to be their next big payday.
The Irishman has been nothing short of a revelation since making his first team breakthrough at the Amex. After coming into the team towards the end of 2022, he would go on to score ten goals for the club in all competitions. As well as that, he has already scored two goals in six appearances at international level.
By the way, he doesn't turn 19 until October.
It has been widely reported that all of the 'big six' in England are closely tracking his progress at Brighton, with an eye to making a move for the player in the coming seasons.
When that does eventually happen, you can be sure that he will not come cheaply.
Arsenal reportedly keen to sign Evan Ferguson in 2024
Should Evan Ferguson continue on his current trajectory, it would not be a surprise to see on of the Premier League big boys make a move for him next summer. In fact, it sounds as though one club are already weighing up that prospect.
Football Transfers are reporting that Arsenal are lining up a £100million move for Evan Ferguson in the summer of 2024.
Mikel Arteta's side have invested a huge amount of money in players in recent seasons, although their long-term outlook at centre forward remains uncertain. Gabriel Jesus is not a free scoring forward, while Eddie Nketiah looks unlikely to have the talent to lead the line for a top club.
Having strengthened other areas of the side this offseason, they may view 2024 as the right time to recruit a high priced striker.
The report also credits Manchester United with an interest in the player, although their interest may have to wait for a couple of seasons. Spurs are another club tracking his progress, although they would not be as attractive an option as some of the other interested suitors.
A £100million deal for Evan Ferguson would seem bizarre to many onlookers, although it would certainly not be out of the question in the current market. For example, Moises Caicedo made just over 40 Premier League appearances for Brighton prior to his £115million move to Chelsea. As well as that, the striker position always demands an added premium when it comes to transfer fees.
The current Irish transfer record stands at £23.5million, the fee paid by Brentford for Nathan Collins this summer.
