Liverpool manager Arne Slot couldn't help but make a joke at the expense of Everton following the club's first game in their new stadium.

Slot has reason to be frustrated with the blue side of Merseyside following a 2-2 draw at Goodison Park, which saw victory slip from their fingers with a last second equaliser, and chaos break loose, with three red cards being branded, including one for the Liverpool boss.

Everton's u18 side played their first game in their new £750 million stadium on Bradley Moore Dock against Wigan Athletic.

However, fate would have it that the first ever goalscorer on the new turf was by Harrisson Rimmer, who just happens to be a big Liverpool fan.

The scorer in question celebrated by sticking up six fingers to the home fans, signalling his boyhood club's dominance in Europe, having won six European Cups.

When asked in a press conference about Everton playing their first game in the new grounds, Slot wore a big smile and asked a question that he already knew the answer to.

"Oh, who scored first?"

The Dutchman's smile grew even larger, but soon attention turned to Wednesday's big game against Aston Villa as the league leaders attempt to maintain their seven point lead over Arsenal.

"I think Villa away, when you get the fixture list, you all know that Villa away is one of the tougher ones you can face," he said.

"But last season was also a very interesting game with it ending 3-3, if I remember correctly. So, [a] very good manager, always has a very good game plan. They brought in quite a lot of good players in the winter break as well and they already had a very good team.

"They qualified for [the] top eight in the Champions League, so it tells you that it's a strong team we are going to face. But that's what I started with, Wolves at home was also tough for us, so every game in this period of time for every team in the league is difficult."

Liverpool then play Man City on Sunday, so this could be a crucial week in terms of how the Premier League will finish up as Arsenal will be chomping on their heels if any points or dropped, but victories could see them in a very strong position as the end of the season draws near.
